Limestone is very durable and is an extremely good choice for a fireplace!
However, limestone is also rather soft and reliably porous, so it does require care from the householder to prevent stains and grubby marks spoiling the surface – especially for new limestone fireplaces!
A few important points for first time buyers!
Your limestone fireplace should be chemically sealed with a good quality sealant. The better sealants do not change the color of the limestone to any degree, but prevent easy penetration of possible stains from getting into the stone. Your fireplace supplier should either seal your fireplace for you, (probably at extra cost) or provide a tin of liquid sealant for you to paint over the surface yourself (also probably at extra cost). These sealants cost around £ 20 or more per tin, so if you see one for much less, do not use it, as it may not be good enough, and could darken your limestone fireplace color!
If you have a limestone heart, this should be sealed twice. Leave the first coat to completely dry and then add the second. Make sure you do not apply too much sealer, as this could cause a change to the surface if soaked!
You may have to repeat the complete sealing process after about six months or a year, especially if the fireplace is for solid fuel. After that, your limestone fireplace will probably not require any further chemical sealing.
Cleaning Limestone Fireplaces
The best way to clean off a grubby mark from your limestone fireplace is simply to use a clean cotton cloth dampened with very dilute washing up liquid. Do not soak the stone though!
If you have coffee or wine etc, spill onto your limestone fireplace surface do not panic, just clean it off thoroughly with a dampened cloth and everything should be fine.
A number of things not to do:
The above list of " do not do's " for limestone, can also be found here on the Money Saving Expert Forum, as I posted it there in the first instance, prior to writing this article!

Most people spend long hours and put endless effort into the planning of their wedding day. When you are planning your wedding, be sure to keep in mind the great advice offered in the article below.
Religion is possibly the most influential aspect of any wedding and married life.
The most important thing to consider when you have to think about is the person you are marrying. There is no need to hurry things–you have an entire lifetime with this person! Think hard about this person and what things in your life you can’t do without, along with what you can’t live without.
Brides should de-stress their skin care routine that offers a glowing complexion without causing irritation or breakouts. Look for facial treatments that soothe and brighten with ingredients like sea salts, rose, rose, and oatmeal proteins.
Make sure your husband-to-be what type of music won’t be played.
Instead of spending so much for a multi-layered wedding cake, consider a multi-tier design with mini-tarts or cupcakes. These arrangements are typically much cheaper and affordable. Guests can serve themselves or even take one home wonderful treats as a party favor of sorts.
Include items that will be useful, like a tourist map, tourist maps, disposable cameras, hats, and pamphlets from fun places to visit in the area. You may want to include flyers and coupons for local restaurants.
Midday is your best time to have wedding reception. You can cut down on bar costs when you have a reception during the day, which will cut back on the costs of an open bar.
Make sure the lights at your wedding reception venue can be dimmed. This might seem a tad bit trivial, having the option to lower your lighting during the first dance will be nice, and then you can brighten it for the remainder of your event. Check with the lighting available at different venues before booking anything for certain.
Having a friend or relative become ordained online allows them to preside over your wedding. This can make your ceremony more personal, while also saving you money as you now do not have to hire an officiant. Make sure this is a legal practice in the area.
Ask your close friend if you could borrow which would match your hairstyle and dress.
Dress children attending your ceremony in comfortable clothes if they are in your ceremony.Choose soft fabrics that fit loose enough to prevent discomfort. New shoes should be worn enough to ensure they don’t cause pain on the big day.Attention to this detail will give the children focus on their role in the wedding instead of fussing with their outfit.
If you are going to be giving one of the wedding speeches, write out and practice what you will say beforehand. If you fail to plan your wedding speech, it’s easy to forget what you want to say, making an offensive joke, or losing the audience.
If you are not serving dinner during your reception, you can use …

Many people today suffer from a variety of stomach problems. You may be one of them. If so, you know how a case of diarrhea or nausea and vomiting can ruin your plans for the entire day. Heartburn can torment you in the late night hours as well as spoil the enjoyment of a good meal. While most of these are temporary annoyances, persistent stomach ailments should cause you to seek out medical intervention. Sometimes these are symptoms of much more serious conditions.
Diarrhea is a problem with loose, watery stools that sends you flying to the bathroom, often at the most inopportune times. It can be caused by food poisoning, or bacterial infections such as e-coli. If you are lactose intolerant you may also feel the unpleasant results of enjoying those dairy products. More serious issues that cause these stomach problems are Crohn’s Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). In the case of food poisoning or bacterial infections, your symptoms will usually lessen by consuming only a clear liquid diet within 24 hours. Drink as much fluid as you can because dehydration can be a real concern. To avoid this problem in the first place, always practice good food safety habits in the kitchen, insist on well-cooked food, and return food that is served to you looking as though it has been sitting out for some time, especially if mayonnaise is involved. If mucous or blood shows in your stools, consult a doctor immediately.
Nausea and vomiting are stomach problems that are rarely life-threatening but can also cause dehydration and even shock if unchecked for too long. The typical causes are an upset gastrointestinal tract, pregnancy, vertigo (dizziness) from inner ear problem or motion sickness, food poisoning, brain injury, carbon monoxide poisoning, and reactions to medicine. It seems that whenever the brain is affected by injury or illness, nausea and vomiting will also be present. Taking slow, deep breaths helps settle the queasiness, as do Vitamin B6 and ginger supplements. There are OTC antihistamines that will also ease your distress.
Heartburn is a burning sensation in your upper abdomen or chest that often mimics the effects of heart disease. Because of this, a doctor should be made aware of your condition if it does not respond to OTC acid buffers and H2 blockers. To reduce acid reflux you should quit smoking and drinking carbonated drinks. Raising the top of your bed, eating small meals, and avoiding coffee, chocolate, fatty foods, and whole milk has also been shown to help. Most stomach problems can be improved with lifestyle changes such as these, but more serious ones will need medical treatment including possible surgery.…
Costa Rica, a small country in Central America, has gained a great deal of popularity, not also as a tourist destination, but also as a retirement paradise. The only type of gambling that is legal in Costa Rica is in casinos, of which there are over 30 in the country, the majority in San Jose, the capital. Costa Rica, or “rich coast” in Spanish, is considered the most politically stable country in Latin America, with perhaps the healthiest climate in the world, and one that welcomes over 1.5 million tourists a year. The abundant flora and fauna, the diverse scenery, and the lively excitement of the Costa Rica casinos have brought in billions of dollars to the economy.
Costa Rica casinos feature all the popular international games including mini baccarat (rummy 9), Let It Ride (tute accion), roulette, blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, craps, pai gow, slots, and video gaming machines. Club Colonial Casino with 45 slots and 12 table games, the Garden Court Fiesta Casino Alajuela with 200 slots and 84 table games, and the Gran Hotel Costa Rica Casino, with 57 slots and five table games, are all located in downtown San Jose. In addition, there are other Costa Rica casinos in small towns and suburbs of San Jose including Cabo Velas Santa Cruz, Cariari, and El Roble. Hotel Coco Verde Casino in Playas del Coco has 20 slots and four table games.
The largest Costa Rica casino is the Irazu Best Western Casino Concorde in La Uruca, with 166 slots and video gaming machines and eight table games. There is a large casino in Goicoechea, a suburb of San Jose, the Radisson Hotel and Casino Europa, which has 219 slots and 13 table games.
A number of gaming expositions and international conferences are held here, including the annual poker industry conference. This event will take place in Costa Rica in December of 2006 at the Marriott Hotel in San Jose. Costa Rica has become a major gambling destination in Latin America and further development of Costa Rica casinos by domestic and international investors is ongoing. The large corporation of Thunderbird Tres Rios is planning construction of a hotel resort, casino, spa, and residential complex that will attract more of the middle and upper class sections of eastern San Jose.…
These are the four Beatles albums you need if you are into psychedelic music. I will not put them in order (other than alphabetical) because you really need all four of them and I don’t want you thinking you can get away with leaving any of them off your list.
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
This is probably The Beatles most purposefully trippy album. Almost every song on the album is bursting with mind melting madness of some type or another whether it be experimental production, unusual song arrangements, and/or unusual songwriting. “I Am The Walrus” & “Strawberry Fields Forever” are arguably John Lennon at his most “mad.” These are the songs where he went full out with the “kitchen sink” production, the bizarre lyrics, the unexpected song arrangements. It’s all there. “Flying,” “Blue Jay Way,” and the title track “Magical Mystery Tour,” these are songs designed to melt minds and they do just that.
What brililant songs. And what an amazing variety in music in such a compact album. There’s more variety in this 35 minute album than in most band’s whole careers. And it’s all done so incredibly well. And then there’s “Tomorrow Never Knows” which could very well be the most far out song The Beatles ever recorded.
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
This is a trip. Sure the “concept” isn’t really all that tight, but I think that’s why it works so well. It’s like you are in a carnival going around hearing these different incarnations of the same band. Again a wild selection of different styles of music but unlike Revolver, each of the songs somehow sounds connected to each other as well. It’s an amazing trick to make “Within You Without You” & “When I’m 64” make sense together on the same album.
This is an album that has become so legendary that sometimes I think people don’t properly appreciate how great it is. It is not overrated. It really is that good. If you think otherwise, you may have not got out of that stage where you want to be different just for it’s own sake.
The White Album(1968)
I talk a lot about variety in this article because that’s one of the things that I love most about The Beatles music and it’s one of the things that I think makes listening to their albums so trippy. Well this is the peak of that variety. There’s 30 tracks here and a vast majority of them are completely different than the other 29 songs on the album. In many ways this is the ultimate Beatles trip and I think it’s their best album ever (psychedelic or not.)
And then there’s “Revolution #9.” It’s hard to get much more psychedelic than that. If you really listen to this track closely on headphones you are likely to get yourself quite a scare and I think that makes the song quite a successful piece of sound art.…
Phuket Island Thailand – One of the World’s Great Island Holidays
Most people visit Phuket for the beaches and because it’s one of those ‘must-see’ tropical islands. For those who can pry themselves away from the regular tourist trappings and head across the island, they can catch a glimpse of what the island offered prior to the growth of the tourism industry.
At the island’s main crossroads at Ban Tha Rua stand bronze statues of Khunying Jan and her sister Mook, celebrating their heroic and successful resistance to the Burmese invasion in 1785. In Phuket City, the ornate Chinese wats of Jui Tai and Put Jaw are testament to the island’s economic history. Tin was once the primary source of wealth for the island, and from the 16th century onwards, Hakka Chinese entrepreneurs and their workforces came to the island to exploit the mines.
When the price of Tin dropped, the island shifted its primary production to rubber and pineapple plantations and then, in the mid 1970’s, turned it’s attention to maximizing the possibilities provided by an inexhaustible stream of tourists.
Between the headlands, particularly on Phuket’s west coast, are the sandy beaches fringing the Andaman Sea against a backdrop of the little explored interior of heavily forested mountains. Chief among these beaches is Patong, the eternally busy repository of most of Phuket’s hustle and bustle. This is where the Hawkers hawk, touts tout and the kathoey ladyboys bamboozle beer-soaked tourists in the bars of Soi Bangla.
In the 2004 tsunami Patong’s many hotel developments suffered badly, though Hat Kamala slightly to the north bore the full brunt.
If the pace of life in Patong is taking it’s toll, if the prospect of yet another karaoke night seems simply too demanding, there are a myriad of alternatives to chose from. After all, Phuket is a considerably large island, nearly the size of Singapore in fact, so your options are hardly restricted.
To find the quieter beaches it’s advised you head to the northern end of the island, where Phuket’s largest beach, Hat Mai Khao, remains relatively unspoiled and less crowded. Just round the corner of the islands southern tip is Rawai Beach, which (by virtue of its east coast location) offers some fabulous sunset views.
Away from the water and the ribbon developments visitors will find the interiors national parks and reserves, along with the rubber and pineapple plantations. If the mind is soothed by these peaceful surroundings, the body can also enjoy it’s own vacation during the nine-day vegetarian festival that falls each October, at the end of the cool season in Phuket – a true detox for body, mind and spirit.
Amongst the myriad of pleasures on Phuket is the fabulous local cuisine. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous and seek out the eating-houses where locals are dining on mass. This is a sure sign that the food is good and inexpensive. The experience alone is enough to satisfy you but the quality of the meals will draw …
Art is such a simple term but it is difficult to define. To a child, art is drawing and coloring. For celebrities, art is acting and entertaining. For designers, art is trend and fashion. The definition of art can be very objective.
Different sectors have their own definition of art. They have various standards too. For a mother, the drawings of her children are works of art. For museums, art is the genuine creation of a significant artist in the past.
Just like its definition, its significance also varies. There are various forms of art today, and each is important to the artist involved. A good example is a musician. Music is a good example of art. That is why singers are called artists. For a songwriter, each song has a story that he wants the people to hear. For most writers, this is very personal.
For various artists, art is way of expressing themselves. You may have seen an abstract oil painting, although you cannot recognize the patterns and strokes of the artists, it is very important for the painter. For him, it represents his emotion and his character. It can symbolize his anger and frustration. However, it can also represent his love and compassion. Anyone who sees it can also use it to represent how they feel. Strokes and colors can evoke certain emotions from other people. This is why most people want to buy pieces of artwork.
For others, it represents their dreams. The television today has produced several competitions that opened the doors for various dreamers. There are dancers across the country who lined up to audition because all their life they wanted to dance in front of an audience who appreciates what they can do. Many have gone to school to enhance their skills so that they can be among the best dancers in the world.
Like music, dancing is a form of art that can evoke various feelings. Aside from love, dances can also evoke sensuality, excitement, fun, passion, anger, and happiness. Art here is more than entertainment and talent. It is more of touching people lives through their moves and choreography.
Today, art also symbolizes comfort. You can see art in many beautiful and comfortable homes. Interior designers are also artists in many ways. They match things to provide a wonderful space for their client. Seeing the overwhelming reactions of their clients gives them satisfaction. To them, that is the most rewarding feeling.
Art has also transcended in foods. Many cooks and chefs have proven this. Some maybe predictable but others are like the abstract oil painting. You do not care what is in there as long as you like the taste. For them, being able to feed and satisfy their customers is all that matters.
Art is very significant in today’s generation. Since it has taken various forms, it has earned the respect of almost all the artists. Musicians respect their instruments. Painters respect their brushes, paints, and canvass. And, chefs respect …
Bounce houses go by many names throughout the world and United States. They go by the names moonwalk, bouncers, bouncies, and brincas. Many times it depends on what part of the country you are in and what the people call the bouncers. There are even terms for them in different languages. That is where the term brinca comes from.
Brinca is the Spanish word for jumper. Many kids at birthday parties or events scream out, “Brinca brinca!” They see the jumper or brinca, as they call it and instantly get excited about bouncing on the brinca.
Bouncers are fun for every one, whatever you may call them. They come in many different colors, themes, shapes, and sizes. Almost every cartoon character has a bounce that is shaped after them on the market. Many kids love those bounce houses, but others still love the basic bounces. Once the kids get inside the bounce houses they don’t really care what is on the outside. They still call bounce houses all kinds of different terms like brincas.
Manufacturers of bounce houses even call them different terms. Some call the bouncers moonwalks. Some call them bouncers. Still others call them jumpers. Manufacturers pretty much make bounce houses in the same way though. They all make the basic square box bounce and vary them up based on color or theme. Not all make their inflatables up to the same standards however.
The language of fun is truly universal. No matter what you call a bounce house, kids love to bounce on them for their party.…
