Poems to Ponder On

Abraham's Flight

Like a bird with long wings,

the Lord God, came flying through the dust-

He had flown over the darkening waves.

He had flown around the planet,

a grip onto the hand of Abraham; now

they were back to where they had started.

There is a long pause.

It is complicated for Abraham to understand

why God did not slay or punish the many sinners

they had passed, and witnessed doing violence.

Abraham had voiced his opinion on the matter,

to give them harsh death,

leaving a tinge of a rattle in his throat,

each time his right anger came out.

God tells Abraham: "What has not yet come

to the surface, years that are still far-off-

you do not see, you are detached from the

good they might bring. "

Old Fires

All those days we have lived

The world on Edge

You and I, all of us-

Loneliness to ashes;

It will all be forgotten.

We are all old fires,

Roots-we can not

Even rub sunlight into.

NO: 3117 (10-6-2011)

Below the Planet's

Waters

Reflections of hills; mountains

of mist below

What are they? The reds, browns,

that float?

Landmarks-perchance, long

forgotten …

Sometimes valiant stories!

Perhaps someone's death-!

Blind, cloudy creatures, with

their spines turned up to us-

Crouched, smiling up at shadows

and the landscape below

How different their world is

from ours!

As I cling onto steel railroads

above-as

they below (swim carefree about)

bored, waiting for a storm.

The Syrian Bunker

(Triple Haiku)

Like a hawk in his

Nest-so resides a Syrian

Soldier, in

His bunker, in the

Golan Heights, readying for battle

Above the heads,

Of, men of war-; the

Bulls of Bashan, wait, and howl:

"What is sorrow for?"

Notes: On a visit to Israel, July of 2010, the author wet into the Bashan Valley (Golan Heights), once Syria, and explored the historic and notorious site, "Rephaim Circle" some five-thousand years old; in addition, he found himself beyond the valley, unexpectedly, by Syrian bunkers and minefield, those used during the war of 1967, between Syria and Israel. The Bulls of Bashan are the armies mentioned in the Bible that will encircle Israel in the latter days (as they did in 1967 and 1972, wars, to try and conquer Israel and will happen try again, such as: Egypt, Syria, Jordon, and sometimes Iran and Lebanon, and one of the new bulls, Russia).

The Winter Dark

As winter comes the trees darken

(unnoticed by human eyes, for a long time).

For eons this has happened-had taken place.

This thought on a kind of loneliness, despair-

(this new awareness)

for mankind.

Man said: "What's the use …?"

Uneasily, building fires inside of winter caves-

(no longer living under winter stars).

How to Keep Bathroom Tiles Clean?

It's one of those jobs that we all know needs to be done but we put it off, sometimes giving it a half hearted attempt. Bathroom tiles get used in one way or another every day, whether it be steam gathering on them from a shave or from water splashing on them in the bath or shower so they need regular cleaning.

The build up of dirt, lime scale and mildew can really ruin the look of your bathroom which you have taken time and expense to design a certain way. Giving the bathroom tiles a good clean could rejuvenate the whole bathroom making look feel and smell clean and gleam like when it was first installed!

We have prepared some tips on how to clean your bathroom tiles:

Use What You Have In The Cupboard.

Bathroom tiles can be cleaned using a variety of tried and tested methods. Some using ordinary household products that are both inexpensive and often stored at home.

Using vinegar, baking soda, salt and lemon juice are one of the least expensive and most effective methods to clean.

Mix 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar into a paste and the apply them to the tiles surface with a cloth.

We think using an old toothbrush helps to get in all those nooks and crannies to make sure the solution is even applied. Then leave it for the solution to do its magic!

Next, wipe the surfaces down with the lemon juice as the acetic acid helps break down the limbscale and the lemon will also leave a lovely citrus smell. It will also help break down soap scum.

Pour some of the solution in the seals and runners to make sure the whole job is done.

How To Deal With Mold And Mildew

It is likely that most bathrooms have suffered with mold and mildew at some time. It can look horrible when on tiles and grout and can spread if left un owned.

White vinegar helps to prevent the build up of mold and mildew and can be applied regularly. Another way to remove some mold and mildew is with bleach. It can eliminate the mold and mildew instantly. Be careful though as with all products not to get it in your eyes or on your skin. Read the warnings and instructions on the bottle you have but make sure you use protective gloves and glasses and thoroughly wash with cold water if it gets on your skin.

To prevent mold and mildew build up you should make sure the room is ventilated well, possibly even leaving a window open to allow steam to escape. Fans are also good for this and some can be connected to the lights.

Do not leave towels or bathroom rugs to dry out as the evaporating water can end up settling on the tiles and in any corners of the room.

The best way though as to make sure the …

How I Ended Up With a Wife 50 Years Younger Than Myself

Before you call me a dirty old man, let me relate the whole story to you. It was 2003 and I was living in the UK, where I was born. I have been around a little, having lived in the UK, France, Bahamas, Jamaica, Canada, Colombia and a few other places.

At the good old age of sixty nine, life was a little boring. I lived in Sheffield with my sister and her husband in a house left to us my my mother. I believe that she paid about 30,000 pounds for the house in the forties. Before the housing price collapse, this same house was valued at about 300,000 pounds. I was still working, selling PVC windows and doors on commission and doing OK financially. Not rich but I was able to support myself. I drove my old BMW around and followed a few of my interests like gardening, writing, photography and computers. Unfortunately I had to give up my two favourite hobbies, that of flying and motor racing. Apart from anything else, my hearing was going down the drain. Health wise I was in pretty good shape. Ten years earlier I did have bypass surgery for blocked arteries but made a complete recovery and also changed my eating habits constructively in order to prevent a re-occurrence. I kept my mind in good shape by solving the most difficult crosswords and sukodus.

The one thing missing in my life was someone to love and to love me. Of course during my life I had had numerous affairs. I lived with a Colombian girl for twelve years and have a daughter who is in her twenties and with whom I am very close. On the other hand, I had never had any desire to actually tie the knot. Now, I thought, it’s too late to even think about that. I did have a couple of female friends in their fifties with whom I associated and occasionally slept with but there was no real love there.

Surfing around the internet, I struck up a friendship with a young man called Ali from Indonesia. I had to get out the atlas to find out exactly where that was. We often discussed the differences in our cultures, he being a practicing Muslim and me being born Jewish but now a staunch Atheist. This did not affect our friendship and Ali kept on inviting me down there to visit him. He was always asking me why I wasn’t married and I tried to explain to him that I was really too old to think about that. He consistently mentioned that the girls in his town were not that interested in a man’s age and in fact preferred older men as they were more faithful and reliable.

Well the time came when I was particularly bored and Ali invited me once again. This time I said “Let’s do it!” The next day I booked a flight to Jakarta from Manchester airport and I was on …

Secrets of the Freemasons

The construction of Rosslyn Chapel, located north of Edinburgh in Scotland, was commenced in approximately 1446 by William Sinclair, who was reputed to have been a Knight Templar that was likely engaged in warfare in the Holy Land. While neither of those facts has been confirmed, the chapel he constructed is filled with images of stone that when viewed as a whole leaves the distinct impression that the site is religious. However, it is definitely not a Christian site and does not easily fit into any current well-known religious motif. It is, in a word, unique revealing evidence that the architect was very much involved with initiatory mysteries.

One of the stone images carved into the interior of the chapel symbolizes a Green Man, which in certain religious studies has been associated with so-called pagan religions. After carefully studying those images, it appears more likely that the Green Man is consistent with a more Masonic interpretation of the Deity than of any other religion or philosophy. The depiction is clearly that of a man’s head with leafy vines growing from inside extending outward through the mouth and traveling upward forming a dense bushy vegetation.

While the figure certainly could symbolize the never-ending cycle of seasons and regeneration commonly found in other clearly defined pagan symbols, its origin is Greek and Roman. To them, the Green Man represented the full flowering of education and thus was inspirational to those contemplating the pursuit of knowledge. The Green Man later found his way into Christian symbolism where he represented the immortality of the spirit and the resurrection of Jesus. Regardless of whether the Green Man represents Jesus linking Heaven to Earth, or the more simplistic pursuit of knowledge, it is undeniably the case that he also represents the growth of man’s spirit.

Art is a seed of man’s spirituality, for from a simple sentence in a masterful work of literature, or from one line drawn in a painting flow messages and ideas that those who either read, or observe may interpret for their respective personal improvement. It is the basis for mankind’s regeneration, or transmutation from a state of unknowing to a state of knowing – much like the ancient alchemists transformed tin into gold. Thus, the Green Man symbolizes the wisdom which man acquires from the knowledge he has gained as a direct result of his growth in spiritual matters commencing with the mustard seed, or smallest particle of spiritual knowledge imparted to him.

It is fair to inquire at this point about what art a Mason should explore. Should it be an examination of the Da Vinci painting The Last Supper, which excited so much interest in the recent titillating books and movies about the legend surrounding the ancient Knights Templar? Is it the full and complete absorption of all literary works written by Albert Pike? Or, are you expected to absorb other types of art and discern the messages about God from those? While the answer that all art is …
